It was the stand she took to discourage the proliferation of harmful and negative ideas about creativity such as the "starving artist" and the "tortured artist, suffering for his/her art," and attempting to replace those images with something new and that suits the creativity it is meant to nurture (not that I think the idea of god is positive and suits creativity exactly but...I related her descriptions of process and idea of the muse or art fairey to a combination of Agnes Martin's idea of inspiration combined with the idea that disciplined labor produces the best work on the occasions when it's combined with inspiration). The tears came at the standing ovation for me, I watch a lot of t.e.d. talks and that one was extra inspiring to me.

I agree the most emotional moment was in the standing-O. She seemed genuinely surprised/humbled to receive such a warm reception. The nature of her presentation made you want to root for her. You could tell this idea of success has really been weighing on or even haunting her. I must admit, I prefer the idea of the 'art fairy in the wall' to the reality myself.
